Reason is still the 'fun' place for inspiration and tons of sound creation. Nice midi tools for more complex compositions/chord progressions. Has anyone tried bass guitar to midi in Cubase?Ĭubase does live recording really well and editing of the audio. * Also not 100% sure how well it will track pitch of a bass guitar when converting audio to midi, but I've seen zPlane do this really well in zPlane stand alone and FL studio (also zPlane). * Not sure about built in FX, Synths, Sample Lib (tons of it). * FX inserts, quickly split/move inserts pre or post fader. Not so much for the casual user, but its there.
Maybe useful at the end of putting a track together when layering up synths, but with the Reason 10.3 buffer size rewrite/fix, it doesn't feel as urgent as a few weeks ago. * Automation curves - probably a great time saver when working on the final steps of a track. Pretty nice if you work on a multi-track project * Use external instruments setup so they integrate similar to a VST * Expression maps for 'orchestral' stuff, nice way to get the key switches in the piano roll window. The Reason fun will not be lost even if you start a song in Cubase - VERY important, cause I like the 'studio feel' of the reason rack and its unbeatable sound design capabilities. YES! you can record a singer or guitarist in another location, kinda like a Skype call, but will full interaction and control room features. * Remote recording of an artist (VST Connect). I think that is SUPER useful when combining vocals/midi work (or live bass for that matter). * Midi notes can overlay audio "notes" as well. The adjustment of note velocities, doing fade ins and such, is quite a time saver, also very nice. Very good, but I think with some of the very new RE Players you can get most functions you need, except that illusive chord track, so a slight plus.
Now, if you do not record vocals, then this wont matter too much for a reason user. The cross grade cost is about the same as a stand alone zPlane, but then you miss integration and harmonization, so you would have to add Vielklang, and now it gets more expensive and still no integration. Making auto harmonies, very detailed pitch adjustments features, auto alignment, threshold for markers, coloring of pitches to chord track or a midi clip, all using zPlane tech. Most seems to be locked to Cubase, but the unlocked ones are VST3. * It doesn't seem we will be able to use the Cubase FX/Instruments inside of Reason. It is always a big time investment to learn new stuff, hence my pre-purchase 'investigation'. I did this to see what the value it is in having Cubase Pro 10 if you already have reason 10.3 (from my perspective). So, decided to put my notes together and share. So, don't expect this price to come back too soon, is my guess. There hasn't been any new customer promotion on Cubase Pro in the last 10 years.
FWIW, I saw that the Cubase Mrkt Mgr just said. I've been researching what Cubase Pro 10 provides from my Reason perspective.
